Missouri Meetings and Events Expo took place on October 4-5th at the Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center in Independence, MO. The Expo offered educational sessions that covered topics such as crisis management, basic meeting planning, working with professional speakers and the future of culinary in Kansas City. The Crisis Management Panel
discussion highlighted the importance of having an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) when planning an event. Christian Van Alstyne, Regional Director, Community Relations Service Department of Justice Region VII-Kansas City, gave great insight and examples from his many years working in emergency preparedness, response and recovery.
This year’s Expo had a few unique experiences. Wednesday evening Happy Faces Entertainment kicked off the opening reception with lots of laughs during their Game Show Party.Audience participation was encouraged and attendees were brought on stage to play a few musical guessing games. Main Event was the next stop for Expo attendees for additional fare, fun and games into the late evening. Arcade games, billiards, bowling were available for Expo attendees to enjoy at the
Main Event location in Independence, MO.
Thursday morning a magical experience lured Expo attendees (and even several Stoney Creek Hotel staff members!) from
the exhibition hall into the pool to witness The Heartland Mermaid, Aurelia Gyldenscale, glide with elegance through the water. She demonstrated how the custom made tail and monofin allow her to make a big splash at events. This was a memorable experience for all!
