Charleville Vineyard Winery and Micro Brewery, based in Ste. Genevieve, partnered with Paul & Wendy Hamilton of the Hamilton Hospitality group to open Charleville Brewing Co. & Restaurant at 2101 Chouteau Avenue adjacent to the Lafayette Square neighborhood.
Jack and Joal Russell opened their Tasting Room in the summer of 2003 on a picturesque hillside in southern Ste. Genevieve County. With the help of their son Tait, they started brewing beer later that same year. Since that time they have established an excellent reputation for wine making and brewing alike. “Our original plan was to move to the country and make a bit of wine, looking back it is amazing how far we have come and grown as a company,” said Jack Russell.
With the interest in craft beer exploding over the last several years, Charleville has seen a tremendous increase in demand and production of their beers. In 2014 the brewery side of the business expanded their facilities with a 10,000 square foot building allowing them to increase their brewing capacity fivefold. Tait Russell, Director of Operations, says “We are excited to bring our unique brewing style to a location that is more easily accessible to our loyal followers, many of whom live in the city of St. Louis and St. Louis County.”
The partnership with the Hamilton’s makes a lot of sense. Charleville has the knowledge, skill and reputation to oversee a successful brewing operation while the Hamilton’s have a long track record of success with property development and foodservice, both bring a winning approach to hospitality and making guests feel special. In addition to the collaboration being established for this new venture there are also plans for the new brewery to create specific beers to be sold at the Hamilton’s existing operations at Vin de Set, Eleven Eleven Mississippi, PW Pizza, 21st Street Brewers Bar and Moulin Events. “We have been talking about brewing our own beer for some time but never took it to the next level.” said Paul Hamilton, Co-Owner. “I have learned over the years to focus on your strengths, which is operating restaurants.” he added.
Jason Arnold, Director of Operations/Partner of Hamilton Hospitality and in house beer guru will also have a significant stake in this new project. “We are excited to work with Tait and his team of brewers to strengthen our commitment to showcase the rich brewing heritage of St. Louis.”, said Arnold who has established himself prominently in the local beer scene over the years in part by founding the Centennial Beer Festival nine years ago, which has become the regions premier indoor brew fest. Arnold also oversees the beer program at 21st Street Brewers Bar and helps orchestrate the continually sold out monthly beer dinner series offered through PW Pizza.
