The City of Stuttgart, Germany sent some of its best and brightest young artists to St. Louis in February 2014 – along with Deputy Mayor Isabel Fezer of Stuttgart(stuttgart.de/isabel-fezer) and a delegation from Germany – in an arts & culture exchange tied to the St. Louis-Stuttgart Sister Cities (SLSSC) annual Winter Ball event.
Artists Laura Olivia Ziegler, Peter George Hauer, Daniel Fleig, Theresa Dorn, and Robert Hühn were met at Lambert Airport by Bob Schott, a director of the local sponsoring organization, SLSSC Committee. Schott hosted the artists for a week at his home, and provided personal transportation for their activities, which included a tour of the Saint Louis Art Museum.
In addition to masterful paintings of St. Louis scenes auctioned off at the SLSSC annual Winter Ball on February 8th, the German artists created a four-foot ornamental Birthday Cake for the City of St. Louis’ 250th celebration. The sculpture is part of STL250’s “Cakeway to the West” art installation, which encourages the public to find 250 two-tier cake sculptures exhibited across the St. Louis metro area.
St. Louis-Stuttgart Sister Cities, Inc. functions as a civic as well as an international organization, keeping a high profile in the St. Louis community by participating in local ceremonies, conventions and festivals.
