The year 2014 marks the 250th anniversary of St.  Louis’ founding by Pierre Laclede and Auguste Chouteau, and plans are afoot to celebrate in grand style all year long.

stl250, a volunteer-led nonprofit that is planning and promoting the anniversary, has announced its official slate of commemorative events.  The celebration year is being co-hosted by St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley.

“The events are designed to encourage St. Louis residents and visitors to learn our city’s history, and share their personal stories and resources to improve the region,” said Erin Budde, stl250 executive director.

First Night in Grand Center on December 31, 2013, serves as the kick-off event for the year of festivities, and February 14-17, 2014, marks the official “birthday weekend.”  The full schedule of events can be found at http://www.stl250.org/.
