Columbia offers no shortage of facilities
for hosting events. And the Riechmann
Pavilion stands out among them for its
adaptability, its no-frills amenities, its unbeatable
location and its affordable rates.
The Riechmann (pronounced “Rickman”)
Pavilion is a multi-purpose space
that is equally adaptable for retreat groups,
weddings, business events and parties.
In addition to private events, Columbia
Parks & Recreation also uses the Pavilion
to host public programs like day camps
and recreation and enrichment courses.
Courtney Deters, Life Enrichment
Recreation Specialist for Columbia Parks
& Recreation, explained, “The most common
rentals are weddings, receptions,
reunions, meetings, birthday parties and
graduation parties, but we’ve had all kinds
of [other] rentals as well.”
Socket, a Columbia-based voice, data and
Internet provider, holds many events at the
Riechmann Pavilion each year. Stephanie
Rosskopf, Marketing Manager at Socket,
said that one of the best parts of using the
Riechmann Pavilion for the company’s
meetings is the natural feel of the space.
“Since we’re a technology company,
our office has a hip feel to it,” Rosskopf
explained. “The warm, relaxed, and natural
environment at the Pavilion is a nice
change of pace for our people.”
Rosskopf continued, “The space is very
flexible in terms of how you use it. We’ve
used it for meetings, parties and even pig
roasts. We love that it’s in the city, but it’s
also in a park.”
The park that Rosskopf refers to is Columbia’s
Stephens Lake Park, which boasts
green space, two waterfalls, outdoor pavilions,
covered picnic tables, recreation areas
and Stephens Lake itself.
Planners who use the Riechmann Pavilion
have access to two large outdoor
grills and a public playground. They can
request special use permits from Columbia
Parks & Recreation for access to additional
open space outdoors.
The Pavilion – a simply constructed but
warm and inviting building made of red
cedar timbers – sits on a hillside that overlooks
the park’s 116 acres. The main event
space within Riechmann Pavilion is a little
more than 2,000 square feet with beautiful
high ceilings and large windows that offer
peaceful views of Stephens Lake.
The Pavilion grants easy access to all of
the park’s amenities, including recreational
trails, an amphitheater, the lake and
a bonfire pit. The park offers a sledding
hill, and ice skating and ice fishing on Stephens
Lake when the ice is thick enough
and weather permits.
Inside Riechmann, meeting planners
have access to a water fountain and
lockable closets. Tables are provided
courtesy of the Pavilion; there are 12
round, 12 rectangular and 12 narrow
rectangular, and 150 chairs are available
at no extra charge.
The space holds a kitchen with a passthrough
window into the main area.
Inside the kitchen, caterers will find
an oven and stove, a microwave, refrigerator,
sink and movable prep tables.
Because Riechmann Pavilion does not
restrict use of caterers, event planners
can invite their favorite vendors to cater
events at the Pavilion.
A television with DVD player and
VCR, a presentation screen, a podium
and a microphone are provided for meetings
that require audio-visual equipment.
And thanks to funding from a special
park sales tax, Wi-Fi is available in the
Riechmann Pavilion and in other areas of
Stephens Lake Park.
Finally, with more than 60 parking spaces,
guests don’t have to walk far to get to
the Pavilion, and there are plenty of restrooms
both inside and outside the build-
ing. Riechmann Pavilion has fully disabled-
accessible indoor restrooms as well
as additional restrooms available outdoors.
Among the Pavilion’s many wonderful
features is its convenient location. The
Pavilion sits within the city of Columbia,
so it’s easily accessible to Columbia
businesses and guests. And because Columbia
is located in central Missouri, the
Riechmann Pavilion is ideal for meeting
planners seeking a venue located midway
between the state’s two largest cities, Kansas
City and St. Louis.
Riechmann Pavilion does not offer overnight
accommodations, but the Columbia
metropolitan area provides event coordinators
with no shortage of local options. As
Deters stated, “There are too many accommodation
options to name! There are numerous
hotels and motels in Columbia.”
Riechmann Pavilion offers all the necessary
amenities to host business meetings,
special events, parties and weddings.
The Pavilion’s location is nearly ideal,
both within the Columbia metropolitan
area and within the state of Missouri.
Riechmann fantastically balances the
accessibility of the city with the natural
charms of Stephens Lake Park, and its
rates are more than reasonable.
For a half day on Mondays through Fridays,
the space costs $300. For just $100
more, renters can access the space from 8
a.m. until 11 p.m. On Saturdays, Sundays
and holidays, the rate is $450 for a full
day (8 a.m. – 11 p.m.).
Tables, chairs and a full kitchen are
available at no extra charge to renters, and
while there are no special rates for larger
groups, the Pavilion does offer a wedding
special. For $1,000, wedding planners
and families have access to the Pavilion
from 8 a.m. through 11 p.m. on Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. MM&E
